What happens at a Wedding Cake Consultation?

For couples who have just got engaged the whole process can seem a little daunting and very confusing about what to do, when, and in which order.

Most couples will look for their venue first and or church and then usually contact the photographer. After this, it is usually what is important to you both.

At our wedding cake consultations, we like to make you feel welcome and feel that you are just visiting for coffee and cake like you would old friends, but lets’ start from the very beginning, the moment we receive the initial phone call, email, or contact form. We ask your wedding date at this stage to check our availability. With the current situation, lots of dates have been moved and 2021 is very busy. We have opened our diaries for 2022, 2023, and 2024 as lots of couples are planning 2-3 years in advance.

After checking availability, we supply a consultation date for you and email a questionnaire. This is to gather the key information like the number of guests, times, themes, and budget. The budget is very important, and we appreciate that no-one likes to talk money, but it is imperative to have an honest conversation here. We also ask on the questionnaire about the style and theme of your wedding. From this, we create a mood board with lots of inspiration and cake ideas.

Once you have had your coffee or tea and tasted the cake, we set about designing. First of all, we listen to you talking about your special day and describing elements so we can plan your cake. We then start sketching, and the beauty of this is that at each stage we can amend or move items on the cake, and it is only when you are 100% happy, we start to apply colour and bring your cake to life.

It is usually at this step we receive big smiles from both of you knowing that this is your bespoke wedding cake. The only stage left now is to choose which flavours you would like in which tiers.

Once you are completely happy with the design, we’ll tell you a little more about ourselves and go through our services, including the other items we can supply alongside your cake such as favour biscuits and macarons.

Within a couple of days, you will receive another proposal, no diamonds on this one though! This will detail everything discussed including design, flavours, and price.
