Celebrating 60 Years: East Midlands Airport’s Corporate Anniversary Cake

When East Midlands Airport contacted us to design a corporate cake for their 60th anniversary, we knew this wasn’t just about cake—it was about storytelling.

This event welcomed over 100 guests including long-serving staff, business partners, and dignitaries such as the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Michael Kapur OBE. He read out a letter of congratulations from King Charles, whose father had officially opened the airport in 1965—a moment steeped in local heritage.

The Design Process: Bringing Their Story to Life in Cake

We started with a chat about the event and what this anniversary meant to the EMA team. We then sketched out design options that included:

· Their 60th anniversary logo

· Core branding colours

· Subtle nods to aviation, like a replica of their 09/27 runway on the top of the cake

The final cake was a square Madagascan vanilla bean sponge with raspberry jam and silky buttercream. To keep the design cohesive, we also created matching gluten-free cupcakes.
