Hi, I’m Jo — the face behind Joanna Evans Cake Design.

My love for baking began long before it became a business. As a little girl, I’d stand on my Nana’s kitchen stool, as she created beautiful cakes and biscuits, while my mum made the most incredible birthday cakes for me and my brother. Creativity has always been part of who I am — from pottery to watercolours — but it was one unexpected gift that changed everything.

When my husband Mark gave me a voucher for a cake decorating class, something just clicked… and I was completely hooked.

Determined not to let it become “just another hobby,” I launched my business in 2012 — and received my very first order soon after. What started in my home kitchen quickly grew into something much bigger. By 2017, I was entering Cake International and proudly achieved a Bronze Award in the Wedding Cake category.

I’ve always believed in investing in my craft, learning from the very best to bring fresh ideas and techniques to my couples. In 2018, I trained with some of the industry’s leading names, refining my skills and pushing my designs even further.

Then came 2019 — a milestone year. After seven years at home, I opened my own cake studio just minutes away, and was honoured to win regional business awards, recognising the journey so far.

Like many, 2020 brought challenges, but also new opportunities. I adapted by launching an online shop and sending cakes across the country.

Since then, the journey has only grown stronger. From a Silver Award at Cake International (just two points from Gold!) to winning Wedding Cake Designer of the Year and becoming a regional winner at the I Do Wedding Awards, I’m incredibly proud of how far the business has come — and I’m still pushing for more.

At the heart of it all is simple: I genuinely love what I do. Designing, baking, and creating cakes that reflect each couple’s story is a privilege I never take for granted.

And when I’m not talking about cake? You’ll find me with my family, watching movies, growing orchids, or singing along to 80s music.
