Hi, my name is Jo, and I am the owner of Joanna Evans Cake Design.
My love of baking started as far back as I can remember when I was a little girl. I would stand on my Nanas kitchen stall and watch her create fabulous cakes and biscuits, and my Mum would create stunning birthday cakes for me and my brother.
I have always enjoyed being creative and have turned my hand to many things including pottery, and watercolours. It was whilst looking for my next “hobby” that my husband Mark brought me a gift voucher for a cake decorating class, and that was it, I was hooked! I was determined not to make this just another “expensive hobby” and so registered my business, advertised, and received my first cake order in 2012.
In 2016 after rebranding and a new website, things continued to grow and in 2017 I entered Cake International and achieved a Bronze Award in the Wedding Cake Section.
The following year I was lucky enough to have a 1:1 Masterclass with Suzanne Thorp from The Frostery, and Phil & Christine Jensen from Peboryon, where I learned so many new skills. I feel it is very important for me to continually invest and continue learning and be able to bring new techniques to my couples.
2019 was a huge year for me. Having worked from my home kitchen for 7 years, I found a wonderfully brilliant space just 2 minutes from home and converted this into my cake studio. I was also nominated as a Finalist for Entrepreneur of the year (Midlands) by the Love Ladies Business Group and was the Regional Winner – Business Category (East Midlands) on behalf of The Cake Professionals.
In 2020, with Covid, like everyone else, we had to rethink our plans due to weddings being postponed. We introduced our new online shop and sent cake in the post.
2021 saw a lot of our couples finally managing to have their weddings, and it was great to see these happening again.
In 2022, again, I entered Cake International, Wedding Cake Section, and was really pleased to obtain a Silver Award for my cake entry (Only 2 points off a Gold!)
I absolutely love talking about, designing, baking, and decorating all sorts of cakes and am fortunate that my business is based on passion; one which brings to life, in design and flavours, your dream cake.
When I am not baking or talking about cake, I am a mother, wife, daughter, and sister. My favourite things are watching movies with my Husband Mark and son Dominic, growing lots of different orchids, and singing badly to loud 80’s music.
I hope this has given you an insight into my world, my world of imagination, where I invite you to join me & share some cake.
